  i wish to make a comment on something that disturbs me deeply to the point i cannot let it pass or be ignored.

  a little over a year ago i resigned as an elder to protest wt policy and how it hurt children.

  the impetus that brought me to that conclusion was a child i knew personally that was in danger.

  MA often fits this definition, it seems to me. Silentlambs posts a victim’s story and MA demands “proof.” How insensitive! I have not been close to a child molestation case, but I can imagine the pain it causes that person. Bill has said that most do not want their story told, and when one does come along who is willing to tell her story, I can not imagine nor understand the insensitivity that must be behind a call for “proof.”

  Sure, in court proof is required. That is an important reason that so many cases go undiscovered or untried. This is not an appropriate place to “prove” such cases, IMO. Bill has an excellent track record as far as I know and I am willing to accept the cases he brings to this board. I think it is the height of insensitivity to rant and howl and scare away victims who have every reason to be timid and afraid without the likes of MA bullying their way through the thread like a bull in a china shop.

  Jerks like MA are at the very least clumsy, insensitive and apparently uncaring, poor excuses for humans.

  Hello Bill,

  Sorry to hear of the trouble MA has been causing you. Alan F and I along with some others identified MA as trouble sometime ago. Alan thinks he is a troll and this allegation often makes MA go ballistic. At times his language is among the most foul seen on this board.

  My advice regarding MA is to have as little to do with him as possible.

  Regarding the GB being murders, I have to agree with avengers that they are just that: murders! Why? Look at the blood policy. They have known for decades that their policy was wrong – remember they based it on “eating” blood. Since transfusion (transplantation) is not in any way shape or form “eating” their original policy was based on a wrong premise. Did they abandon the policy once they learned the error of their premise? No. They found other arguments and kept the no blood policy rather than admit their error. People die because GB will not admit error!

  Their haughty attitude remains the same with the Silent Lambs issue. They will not admit error, so many people suffer as a result. Bill is making life difficult for them on this issue; Lee Elder is making life difficult for them on the blood issue.

  Lives are at stake. Go Bill. Go Lee.

  i fought many years from inside as an independent spirit trying to change or at least mitigate damage done by the wtbts.

  i met ted jaracz, in the early 1970s when he was called into bethel to serve on the gb.

  this mans control of the service department and the gb is what i have fought for 3 decades but recently conceded this system is beyond reforming.

  Greetings jst2laws,

  It is true that there are plenty of flame throwers here, but there are also many who are largely spectators and occasional posters.

  Many of us have had our belly full of judgmental JWs when we were “in” and want no past of that anymore. For me it is about freedom. Freedom to think, to talk (on boards such as this, at least) and to act in accord with our own conscience rather than being required to conform to the conscience of the GB.

  I for one welcome you here and hope you stay and contribute in a positive way. I’ll try to do the same.

  Blood Or Shunning - Which Bugs You More?

  i'm curious about this.

  it would appear that active jw's who have reservations about the societies teachings, are usually doubtful about the prohibition of accepting a blood transfusion.

  oddly, few seem to have any qualms about the shunning policy whilst they are still associating.

  I assume that some of your remarks were directed to me. I am sorry about your husband’s illness. I hope that it is not too far advanced.

  It was me, not “brother” Cygnus, that referred to living 20 or more years with hep. “C.” Your dates are correct. Prior to about 1990 most hep C was called “non A non B hepatitis.” Thousands of careful histories have documented when victims of hep C were likely infected. Persons now showing symptoms were infected anywhere from the 50s and 60s to the 80s and early 90s. Many factors influence if and when a person with the virus may become ill. Many who lead good clean lives never show symptoms. Conversely, heavy drinkers hasten the onset of the disease. Avoiding heavy doses of Tylenol and alcohol are good practices for all of us and especially for those carrying the hep C virus.

  conservatives enjoyed piling on clinton and getting all frothy about how he dishonered the dignity of the white house.

  then george w. promised to 'restore dignity to the white house' and instead of viewing this as a typical political lie to get elected, conservatives bought it hook, line, and sinker.

  I’d suggest waiting a bit till more information is gathered before drawing conclusions. The headlines of the left leaning press do not always tell an accurate story.

  Broad brush condemnation reminds me too much of Watch Tower writers who could find little good to say about much of anything not related to its cause.

  Hello Englishman,

  I have to agree with Lee Elder that the two are difficult to compare. During my JW days DFing was never close to me until I was involved with action against a very smart “rebellious” guy. He finally was DF’ed and I always felt badly about it. One day, in public, I took an opportunity to greet him and shake hands with him. That encounter probably did me more good than him.

  While the DFing issue plays games with people’s minds and is a hideous practice, the blood issue plays with peoples very lives. Recovery from mind games is possible, but so far, resurrection is beyond the power of even the guys who make the blood rules for JWs.

  JWs and even ex-JWs, in my experience, have an aversion to blood transplantation that is not shared by the general public. JWs tend to think of blood in terms of eating it. This is not surprising since eating blood was the form of intake that framed the GB’s original objection to blood. But, I ask you, how many of us would find eating a human heart, kidney, liver, etc. appetizing? Probably none of us!

  Non physicians tend to think of a transfusion in different terms than an organ transplant; however, a transfusion is exactly what it is – an organ transplant. If one wants to object to solid organ transplantation along with liquid transplantation, fine. Then one is being consistent. Remember, blood transplantation is the only organ transplant that often takes place in full view of the public. JWs see blood transplantation taking place and say “yuck.”

  Believe me, if the public (and those same JWs) could see other medical procedures and operations, their “yuck” would be much louder.

  Dungbeetle refers to unnecessary transfusions, and I would agree that there have been such, but the medical profession is working hard to trim these and all unnecessary procedures. What I am talking about above are the large number of life saving transfusions that are administered every day around the world. I for one would rather live for many years with hep “C” than die promptly from trauma. Aids is rarely passed via transfusion today. Hep “C” patients usually live 20 or more years after infection; many never become ill with the disease. Ask COMF.

  For over 50 years the WTS has over-hyped the threat of disease form blood and those fears often follow JWs after they have left the organization. Their over-hyping is the result of their very weak scriptural arguments against the medical use of blood.

  This is a true story of bribery by a JW business man who was a baptized witness. He was a regular publisher at the time, but he missed many meetings because of his business needs and because he was not “lettered.” He struggled to read and therefore to participate in the TMS, etc. His wife was a zealous JW who frequently “vacation pioneered.” – You can see that this was a long time ago.

  Though limited in formal education he was very sharp in business and he and his family lived well (the wife never had to work, his business activities funded her pioneering). His work was seasonal and in the “off” season they would vacation in the tropics.

  During one “off’ season period I was asked to handle his mail and I was instructed to open his mail from a certain business entity because he was expecting to have a contract issued to him for a job on which he had bid. When it arrived I was to call him. He did not count on what actually happened with his mail:

  The expected contract never came, but several envelopes did come from that company and I opened them as instructed, in anticipation of the contract being in one of them. Instead, what three or four of these envelopes did contain was a note from each of several executives of this company along with cash – large bills in $50 or $100 denominations – I don’t remember now - it has been many years ago now. They were returning his money to him and saying that they found no reason to accept the money; they were appropriately paid by their employer or words to that effect

  Why the cash? He had sent the money to them “thanking them for their help and cooperation over the past year. The money apparently was sent in December, a time when many “worldly” companies pass out bonuses, etc. He thought he could buy his way into next year’s contract!

  So, where was the righteousness? Was it with the JW who sent what amounted to bribes or with the “worldly” officials who returned the money?
